Fun, play, and dad jokes

I never would have thought I'd be a guest on a podcast all about the power of play, but as they say, never say never.

I had the privilege of being a guest on the Playful Humans podcast hosted by Mike Montague. (Listen here or watch on YouTube here.) His platform is all about unleashing the power of play to -- wait for it -- increase productivity. Yep, you read that right: take time off, do the things you enjoy, and watch your efficiency soar. So HECK YES, as someone who gives keynotes and facilitates workshops about extinguishing burnout, you bet your bottom dollar I can hang.

Highlights from the episode? Swapping dad jokes and playing a short game of Family Feud. (The category? Comedies!) And of course, I shared my experience with burnout and lessons I've learned about taking daily micro-steps to avoid overwork. Not to mention, my advice about separating your self-worth from your work. Yep, we got heavy for a few.

We recorded this episode right before the holidays, so in the spirit of being a "playful human," I decided to have some true fun (see my book review) over winter break. This included:

  • Playing with tons of slime and launching slime sling shots at a slime museum.

  • Acting like a kid playing carnival games at an arcade -- on two separate occasions. (Down the Clown and Break the Plate are my faves!)

  • Laughing hysterically while trying to hold my own during some dodgeball games -- and getting utterly destroyed.

So I repeat: never say never!
